Bounty Board
Remember: Hunting monsters can get dangerous, so we suggest tackling those jobs in groups of two to four."
To attempt one of the bounties, comment to this post, specifying the bounty in question, other party members you'll be taking along, and any further requested or relevant details.
If the bounty states Moderated Log not required, you can put up a log to play out the events with all involved participants at your own discretion; if it states Moderated Log required, you will need to play out a series of events led by one of the mods, so make sure you can commit the time to doing it!
Bounties and expeditions may be taken by a single group of up to five people, and characters can undertake new bounties and expeditions once every three days.
For the month of July, completing at least one bounty will earn 50 experience!
Hot In Herre
Requester: AMBITIOUS ALCHEMIST
Location: Concord Spellcraft Guild
I'm told there's a mysterious rock or crystal of some kind that heats up nonliving matter in proximity; it sounds like a fantastic substance for study! I'm willing to pay handsomely for a few nice, big pieces of it. You'll find it in the Crater in this new Shard to the north. The fact that you won't be able to wear anything while transporting it won't be too much of a problem, right?
Reward: 1600 Sol per sample (one per person, please!)
[Moderated Log not required; just log out the awkward escapades that result! Each participant needs 3+ posts to receive credit.]
Coming Up Next
Requester: INSPIRED IMPRESARIO
Location: The Glistering Estate
I'm putting together a block of some shows for the coming weekend, and my audience is growing weary of the usual performances about mysteries and monsters and knights. Then it hit me: I'll put up short shows written by the illustrious Starfallen, and maybe even acted out by them! Why don't you all send me some scripts, and we'll see what we can do?
Reward: 1200 Sol
[Moderated Log not required: Just put up a log or description of its performance. Hopefully you don't mind your fellow Starfallen judging it....]
Welcome to Flavortown
Requester: GRANDIOSE GASTRONOME
Location: Laourn
As The Pit's chief tender, I'm not just the mayor to a village of flavor; I'm the lookout on the S.S. Delicious on her search for new and righteous dishes and delights. Why don't you Starfallen give me YOUR recipes? If I get enough, maybe I could even make an anthology! "Flavors of the Starfallen" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Reward: 1000 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just post the recipe to the Liber Nuntiorum. It can be as realistic, fantastical, plausible, or nonsensical as you see fit. Just bear in mind other Starfallen may have their own thoughts on it...]
Hang On Tight
Requester: BOLD BOULDERER
Location: The Outlands
That weird bunch of moving floating rocks may be gone for now, but that's no reason to get rusty with your skills-- or for us to slack off on making the tools you need! We've made some subtle improvements to the retractable paraglider and grappling slinger we'd like to put into practice. You and your friends could even hold races with each other! How about giving us a test on the old obstacle course?
Reward: 400 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just log out the high-speed escapades that result! Each participant needs 3+ posts to receive credit.]
Well, This Is Awkward
Requester: UNCOMFORTABLE UNDERSTUDY
Location: Not specified
I'm from a well-known and legitimate publication that specializes in tantalizing gossip about the recent goings-on, and... our lead editor and writer seems to have vanished off the face of the shard after one of his usual nights of belligerent drunkenness. If you can write up a snappy, scandalous headline and a tantalizing paragraph about recent events or especially the Starfallen, we'll pay you well for it.
Reward: 1200 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just DM it to the mods!]
Many Layers
Requester: BOHEMIAN BARISTA
Location: Concord
I'd like to give a special gift to whoever is able to master ten classes. Respond to this posting if you manage to pull it off.
Reward: Not specified
[Not eligible for EXP rewards!]

Ovelia and Agrias begin to search the perimiter by following the depressions in the grass, but while they traverse half the pond without sight of the creature responsible, they at least manage to garner a few more details about what made it. Namely that it's as thick as a human being at its widest, which makes the snake hypothesis... a little worrisome.
Ayla is unable to see any sort of creature from her vantage point. But what she does see is that the irregular chunks of ice rise up from somewhere near the center of the pond to float on its surface. This corroborates the observations made by Velo under Red's protection: The temperature of the pond very quickly gets colder the closer they get to the middle and the lower the depth.
On their return, however, Ovelia catches a glimpse of something stalking in wait within the rocks beside the pond-- but when Agrias inevitably moves in to protect her, they find only a dried, white bit of shed, torn snakeskin, with fragments of it still clinging to some of the depressed tall grass nearby.

Keeping near Agrias, she begins to head back to the others to regroup.

Perhaps if she and Red venture into the shallow areas of the pool, they can draw the beast out and engage it in melee. She will suggest this course of action, unless someone else has a better idea of how to get the snake to surface.

He's already in ice-cold water, but having fur makes him a little more suited to the task, so might as well go all the way and try to take a peek under the surface.

By contrast, the ice gathered by Velofnir is... strikingly ordinary, if very well-aerated. But with her up-and-coming alchemical studies, she's not oblivious to the implication: when they're formed underwater, the chunks of ice must be freezing very, very quickly.
A peek underwater reveals further telling details:
The creature does not appear to be underwater. However, a cluster of eight large eggs, each the height of one's forearm, rests at the bottom of the shallow pond. And while it's a little hard to tell with any certainty by poking one's head under the water, the behavior visible from the surface helps to paint a more clear picture: The ice is forming from the cluster of eggs. ...perhaps the strange, conspicuous glow near the center of the egg cluster has something to do with it...?
A sudden shift of tall grass catches Ayla's attention, near where Ovelia and Agrias had previously gathered the snake skin. Once they had left to return to the others, the suspected serpent- or whatever is in the grass- began stirring, though not moving in any obvious direction toward the party.

Now excuse him while he tries to dry himself a little bit.

She's game to fight it, but there's no need to engage with it if it's indeed moving away from them. She's presently of the same mind as Ovelia, and if they're not here to hunt it for safety or food, she's fine leaving it alone.
no subject
She will suggest to keep an eye on the snake while she quietly dives in to investigate, preparing a small leather sack to gather an egg or whatever the glowing thing is in case it proved to be dangerously cold.
Stupid? Maybe. But leaving now wouldn't give any answers as to why the ice was forming. Sure, they had a few samples, but none of them were from the cause itself.
no subject
Don't mind Red, he's just going to dive in after Velofnir to save her from herself when the big snake monster inevitably tries to get a piece of her.

The eggs themselves are about head-sized, soft-shelled, and- most importantly- painfully cold to the touch, like freshly-fallen snow. Still, with the aid of her bag, Velo has little issue carefully bagging one up to take home for study. That just left the strange glow in the middle of the pond.
And as soon as she gazes into it, a rush of arcane knowledge floods Velofnir's senses-- and with it, an understanding of why the small pond never quite seemed to each equilibrium.
Create Water
Their job done, the team beats a retreat back home to report their findings.
Anyway, the eggs will hatch in a week or two, and the ice will probably stop forming after that happens. Either way, it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about."
Their job completed, the party receives their pay of 1200 Sol. The party is free to do as they wish with the egg, though Lenna strongly advises against trying to keep it as a pet, given the animal's massive size and cantankerous demeanor as an adult.
