Bounty Board

"Greetings, Starfallen. These are the jobs, hunts, and bounties we currently have available; if you're interested in rising to the task, just let us know and we'll send you on your way.
Remember: Hunting monsters can get dangerous, so we suggest tackling those jobs in groups of two to four."

How to use:

To attempt one of the bounties, comment to this post, specifying the bounty in question, other party members you'll be taking along, and any further requested or relevant details.

If the bounty states Moderated Log not required, you can put up a log to play out the events with all involved participants at your own discretion; if it states Moderated Log required, you will need to play out a series of events led by one of the mods, so make sure you can commit the time to doing it!

Bounties and expeditions may be taken by a single group of up to five people, and characters can undertake new bounties and expeditions once every three days.

For the month of July, completing at least one bounty will earn 50 experience!

Hot In Herre
Requester: AMBITIOUS ALCHEMIST
Location: Concord Spellcraft Guild
I'm told there's a mysterious rock or crystal of some kind that heats up nonliving matter in proximity; it sounds like a fantastic substance for study! I'm willing to pay handsomely for a few nice, big pieces of it. You'll find it in the Crater in this new Shard to the north. The fact that you won't be able to wear anything while transporting it won't be too much of a problem, right?

Reward: 1600 Sol per sample (one per person, please!)
[Moderated Log not required; just log out the awkward escapades that result! Each participant needs 3+ posts to receive credit.]

Coming Up Next
Requester: INSPIRED IMPRESARIO
Location: The Glistering Estate
I'm putting together a block of some shows for the coming weekend, and my audience is growing weary of the usual performances about mysteries and monsters and knights. Then it hit me: I'll put up short shows written by the illustrious Starfallen, and maybe even acted out by them! Why don't you all send me some scripts, and we'll see what we can do?

Reward: 1200 Sol
[Moderated Log not required: Just put up a log or description of its performance. Hopefully you don't mind your fellow Starfallen judging it....]

Welcome to Flavortown
Requester: GRANDIOSE GASTRONOME
Location: Laourn
As The Pit's chief tender, I'm not just the mayor to a village of flavor; I'm the lookout on the S.S. Delicious on her search for new and righteous dishes and delights. Why don't you Starfallen give me YOUR recipes? If I get enough, maybe I could even make an anthology! "Flavors of the Starfallen" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Reward: 1000 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just post the recipe to the Liber Nuntiorum. It can be as realistic, fantastical, plausible, or nonsensical as you see fit. Just bear in mind other Starfallen may have their own thoughts on it...]

Hang On Tight
Requester: BOLD BOULDERER
Location: The Outlands
That weird bunch of moving floating rocks may be gone for now, but that's no reason to get rusty with your skills-- or for us to slack off on making the tools you need! We've made some subtle improvements to the retractable paraglider and grappling slinger we'd like to put into practice. You and your friends could even hold races with each other! How about giving us a test on the old obstacle course?

Reward: 400 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just log out the high-speed escapades that result! Each participant needs 3+ posts to receive credit.]

Well, This Is Awkward
Requester: UNCOMFORTABLE UNDERSTUDY
Location: Not specified
I'm from a well-known and legitimate publication that specializes in tantalizing gossip about the recent goings-on, and... our lead editor and writer seems to have vanished off the face of the shard after one of his usual nights of belligerent drunkenness. If you can write up a snappy, scandalous headline and a tantalizing paragraph about recent events or especially the Starfallen, we'll pay you well for it.

Reward: 1200 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just DM it to the mods!]

Many Layers
Requester: BOHEMIAN BARISTA
Location: Concord
I'd like to give a special gift to whoever is able to master ten classes. Respond to this posting if you manage to pull it off.

Reward: Not specified
[Not eligible for EXP rewards!]

I'm Kanji Tatsumi.

I come from Inaba, Japan back home on Earth. I was supposed to go back home from the alien planet Prismatica, but instead I wound up here! I didn't know that kind of thing could happen, but I guess I didn't know I could get zapped to an alien planet the first time.

My home's pretty quiet, but I like it that way. Lot of people think that's boring or that we're hicks, but big cities ain't for me. I like that everybody kind of knows each other, even if it means the gossiping old hens down the shopping district talk all kinds of shit.

Still, wouldn't trade it for anywhere else in the... universe, I guess. I miss home. I miss a lot of the people there, too. I miss my friends from Prismatica, too.

But I miss you more than anything. I love you. I hope you're safe and happy.

My name's Jason Cole.

I grew up in a fallout shelter, but basically I'm from a place called the Capital Wasteland. It's not a great place to live, if I'm being honest. There's radiation, raiders, mutated animals... It's dangerous and it's hard, but we've been working on making it better for a long time. There's no more slavers, not as many raiders as there used to be. The Potomac River's clean now, so anybody who needs water can get it without getting sick, and there's not so many mutants anymore, either.

It's a lot better than it used to be.

My full name is Velofnir Hraesvelgr, but I usually go by Velo, mostly because people can't pronounce it.

I come from a world almost completely taken over by a singular empire, who have managed to rise to power by the use of sunstones, magical batteries powered by souls. They require living sacrifices to operate, but I can't deny their power. Just about everything important is powered by souls, really, most of all the entity we know as the Dreamer. It's less of a creature, more a force of nature that sleeps at the heart of the world. Anything it consumes becomes unknowable, but if it runs out of souls to eat and joins with the other half looking for it, it wakes and will annihilate the entirety of our existence. It's done it before, and it's due to do it again.

I need to get back to help stop it, but I recognize an opportunity where I see one. The Dramer and its counterpart are supposed to be nearly all-knowing, but their influence doesn't reach out here. If I can find and bring back something from here that could help, be it knowledge, tools, or even just ideas that they aren't expecting, it could tip the scales in our favor. I don't like being here, but if I have to be, I'll make the best of it.

My name is Corrin, and I am a citizen of the kingdom of Nohr. Though I spent most of my life growing up in a fortress in the northern wastes, my true home is with my family, in the capital city of Windmire, which lies on the Great Western Steppes of the kingdom. There, the king holds his court out of the mighty Castle Krakenburg, which is situated at the bottom of a great crater. The current ruler of Nohr is King Garon, and he is my father.

Nohr is a...difficult land. Head west away from the capital and eventually the Steppes will give way to the lava fields and wastelands near the Bottomless Canyon, which marks the border with our eastern neighbour, the Kingdom of Hoshido. To the north, passing through the Woods of the Forlorn, you will eventually come to the arctic tundra where the Ice Tribe, a current vassal state of Nohr, make their home. The southern province of Macarath that borders the mountains of Notre Sagesse is more temperate and hospital, and acts as the agricultural and medicinal center of Nohr, but a recent drought has impacted the region's ability to feed the kingdom and her people. To survive, we have developed a militaristic culture and warrior aristocracy to lead. Everyone pulls their weight in Nohr, from the farmer all the way up to the Crown Prince, because we believe that a leader who will not fight alongside his men and face the same risks and dangers, is no leader at all.

A harsh land, but given the choice, there is no place I'd rather be. As a member of the royal family I pledge to act as an ambassador of all that is good and just in Nohr, for while our land may be savage and harsh, it breeds loyalty, love, and camaraderie in the people who make it their home. In time, I hope to demonstrate these qualities as a Starfallen in our quest to save this world.

To interested parties in the Concord Astronomical Society,

I was born to an Earth colony on planet K-2L. The colony was attacked and destroyed in a Space Pirate raid when I was three, and I was the sole survivor. I was orphaned by a peaceful avian race know as the Chozo. They brought me back to their planet--Zebes--which orbits a star known as FS-176. This system also hosts the planets Twin Tabula, Oormine II, Bilium, and Tallon IV. It's located in the Spiral Sector of the cosmos.

Zebes has also since been destroyed... I've traveled far across the cosmos and I'd wish for anyone to see it as I saw it with my own eyes. Zebes lives on only in memory and data logs.

In that vein... perhaps your magic is capable of something the technology I only know isn't; if you can point your gaze in the Federation Solar System, search for a gas giant planet, bright and golden. Planet Elysia is there and hosts a floating city with a Chozo Observatory, and it's entire purpose was to try and document all known planets and stars in the universe. It holds an unfathomable amount of astronomical information.

I impress this on to you out of respect for those that raised me and their pursuit of sharing the knowledge they've collected over the many years they've lived with other alien races.

Please do well by it.

My name is Rakka Pickclaw, I hailed once from deep within the mountain of Khundrukar, formerly occupied by a bunch of smelly dwarves too stupid to live. Born to an impressive colony of 200 and guarded by the magnificent but very dead black dragon Nightscale. I want to say Nightscale deserved better but perhaps in retrospect he was an asshole. A very impressive asshole. With large wings. And cruel! And had a good earhole for good music! This is probably why I am not dead also!

Anyway here I am traveling now being very not dead with new traveling party and savage murderers of one (1) Nightscale; a half-elf druid, a dwarf cleric of Moradin, a human fighter trainwreck, and Lazarus a wizard, the only one who's name is worth remembering, also an asshole. Not a dragon. Wait-- there is also a tabaxi. Do you even know these words? She is a cat person. She enjoys real food, the raw and freshly bleeding kind. That is important and worth remembering. Good taste is as important as good ears.

We left far away from Khundrukar, traveled in many places, and were making way to investigate central Flanaess not far from the city-state of Verbobonc before everything goes black and I am falling out of the sky like hot Roc shit.

I have always wanted to fly but perhaps not like that.

Please make money sol payment quickly, I am withering from the lack of fresh strings. You know the kind.

My Lady Stellar Sorceress,
I hope this letter finds you well, I write to fulfill the request for information on our homeworldsโ€”
my name is Schala, and I hail from the Kingdom of Zeal.

The Kingdom itself floats high above the land, where our cities lie, ascending to its highest point. There is Enhasa, a place dedicated to the study of dreams. Beds and books line the walls, hoping to reveal the secrets of the universe by unlocking it through the unconscious mind. Kajar is the city of magic, where our most fervent scholars work to perfect skills and tools to enhance one's natural abilities. Beyond that is the Palace, where the Mammon Machine is housed, and the royal family can be found.

You see, everyone that lives within the Kingdom itself has been given the gift of magicโ€” they call us the Enlightened Ones. Those that do not possess this power... live beneath the clouds, having to survive against the harsh conditions of a deep age of ice and cold that has raged as long as anyone can recall. They are the Earthbound Ones, made of the same flesh and bone as the rest of us, but... certainly not treated like it.

Reading this now, it may be easy to see why here in this world, I seek the knowledge and perhaps even the powerโ€”
to help create change.

                      Yours in sincerity,

I am Cecil Mortimer Winterscales V, but I simply go by Cecil.

Where I truly come from is a place I no longer call home. Instead, the closest facsimile would be the city of Sasserine. There I met some of the best and the worst of people; among them, particularly those also scrutinized by society, were people I could call friends. Stern judgment of "monster" races like kobolds, bugbears, orcs and drow were commonplace, but together, we earned a reputation that superseded stereotypes. Through them, I began to think all of my struggles were shaping me into someone I could finally be proud of.

But all of that came into question once we learned of a greater scheme: Demogorgon planned to destroy all of existence just to kill his other half. My friends and I were pawns to our respective gods (Lolth, Wee Jas, Mask, Hruggek and Tiamat), most of whom wished to secure their place in the coming power vacuum. This felt particularly insulting, as the hypocrisy I endured back home stemmed from Tiamat's teachings. The possibility that my life choices, including abandoning my clan and her monastery in search of self contentment, was a long term scheme to groom me into her champion makes me sick.

Even moreso when I died and disappointed her.

I can tell you little else about my world or its fate, as it must now proceed without me. It is quite possible Demogorgon's schemes have rippled so far across the multiverse that it tore your world asunder. If so, then perhaps I have one last chance to aid those who accepted me without question. At the same time, I do not welcome more gods to orchestrate the trials and tribulations I must inevitably endure. It is enough that I already doubt myself and my decisions thus far; I don't need the help.

From this, I trust you understand my harsh criticism of not one, but two gods calling upon me to help secure their place in the world while gesturing to all those who will die if I remain idle. I accept the opportunity to redeem myself (in whose eyes, I am uncertain), but do so cautiously. Your gods surely know I failed my own; while I am in no rush to return to my world, I will not waste an opportunity to ask "why me".

I am called Meroon Kekovath, from the Triton Protectorate of Kekova. It is an outpost near one of the deepest ocean trenches in the Trackless Sea, where my people keep guard against the horrors of the depths. I hope they are still there, still fighting to protect land and sea. I left home at the age of 15 for a short adventure, and got trapped in another realm, unable to return.

It is strange to think that I have lived more of my life trapped in Barovia than I did with my people beneath the waves, but it came to pass that I did. Barovia is a terrible place. Never go there. It is a dark land plagued with evil beings and truly terrible turnips for every meal. Adventurers sometimes got pulled in, but no one could escape from that land until we destroyed the devil ruling over it.

I had only recently returned from Barovia to the land-city of Waterdeep (which is a misnomer, it sits upon a shallow coast) when I fell here. This is not the first time I have had to start over in a new land and find new gods to call upon, but you must forgive me if I hope it is the last time. I am honor-bound to help protect this world, the way my people protect the world I came from, but when that duty is complete, I hope to return to my own ocean once more.

I'm Ralsei, I guess! I used to call myself Prince of the Dark, because that's what the prophecy I followed referred to me as... Um, the full story would require a lot of explaining, but more or less...

Me and the first people I really spent any time with, a human, and a monster traveled across the Dark World. We met another darkner, Lancer, were sort-of-betrayed by him, and then double-crossed in favor of, to defeat his dad without hurting him. Then my friends had to leave and return home. It honestly felt sort of... anticlimactic. The prophecy wasn't even really fulfilled.

They came back pretty often, once a week or so, since, but we never were able to figure out the rest of the prophecy, and...

Well, they never outright said it, but I put it together after long enough. Little pieces of what they said... my world seemed to be... derivative of what was in their world, when they first came in. And it made sense. How could someone live their first 20 years, much less learn to read, if they were as alone as I was?

Wow, this... got sort of weird, haha. At least it's not as bad as all that here!

Velo will attempt to support with Magic Missile, but upon discovering that it's next to useless, will instead suggest for her and Red to lure it towards a tree. Wide flail swings don't tend to work well with obstacles in the way, which might buy them some time so the salt can continue to wear it out.
