Bounty Board
Remember: Hunting monsters can get dangerous, so we suggest tackling those jobs in groups of two to four."
To attempt one of the bounties, comment to this post, specifying the bounty in question, other party members you'll be taking along, and any further requested or relevant details.
If the bounty states Moderated Log not required, you can put up a log to play out the events with all involved participants at your own discretion; if it states Moderated Log required, you will need to play out a series of events led by one of the mods, so make sure you can commit the time to doing it!
Bounties and expeditions may be taken by a single group of up to five people, and characters can undertake new bounties and expeditions once every three days.
For the month of July, completing at least one bounty will earn 50 experience!
Hot In Herre
Requester: AMBITIOUS ALCHEMIST
Location: Concord Spellcraft Guild
I'm told there's a mysterious rock or crystal of some kind that heats up nonliving matter in proximity; it sounds like a fantastic substance for study! I'm willing to pay handsomely for a few nice, big pieces of it. You'll find it in the Crater in this new Shard to the north. The fact that you won't be able to wear anything while transporting it won't be too much of a problem, right?
Reward: 1600 Sol per sample (one per person, please!)
[Moderated Log not required; just log out the awkward escapades that result! Each participant needs 3+ posts to receive credit.]
Coming Up Next
Requester: INSPIRED IMPRESARIO
Location: The Glistering Estate
I'm putting together a block of some shows for the coming weekend, and my audience is growing weary of the usual performances about mysteries and monsters and knights. Then it hit me: I'll put up short shows written by the illustrious Starfallen, and maybe even acted out by them! Why don't you all send me some scripts, and we'll see what we can do?
Reward: 1200 Sol
[Moderated Log not required: Just put up a log or description of its performance. Hopefully you don't mind your fellow Starfallen judging it....]
Welcome to Flavortown
Requester: GRANDIOSE GASTRONOME
Location: Laourn
As The Pit's chief tender, I'm not just the mayor to a village of flavor; I'm the lookout on the S.S. Delicious on her search for new and righteous dishes and delights. Why don't you Starfallen give me YOUR recipes? If I get enough, maybe I could even make an anthology! "Flavors of the Starfallen" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Reward: 1000 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just post the recipe to the Liber Nuntiorum. It can be as realistic, fantastical, plausible, or nonsensical as you see fit. Just bear in mind other Starfallen may have their own thoughts on it...]
Hang On Tight
Requester: BOLD BOULDERER
Location: The Outlands
That weird bunch of moving floating rocks may be gone for now, but that's no reason to get rusty with your skills-- or for us to slack off on making the tools you need! We've made some subtle improvements to the retractable paraglider and grappling slinger we'd like to put into practice. You and your friends could even hold races with each other! How about giving us a test on the old obstacle course?
Reward: 400 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just log out the high-speed escapades that result! Each participant needs 3+ posts to receive credit.]
Well, This Is Awkward
Requester: UNCOMFORTABLE UNDERSTUDY
Location: Not specified
I'm from a well-known and legitimate publication that specializes in tantalizing gossip about the recent goings-on, and... our lead editor and writer seems to have vanished off the face of the shard after one of his usual nights of belligerent drunkenness. If you can write up a snappy, scandalous headline and a tantalizing paragraph about recent events or especially the Starfallen, we'll pay you well for it.
Reward: 1200 Sol
[Moderated Log not required; just DM it to the mods!]
Many Layers
Requester: BOHEMIAN BARISTA
Location: Concord
I'd like to give a special gift to whoever is able to master ten classes. Respond to this posting if you manage to pull it off.
Reward: Not specified
[Not eligible for EXP rewards!]

Suffice to say, Jeanne immediately recognizes it. Whether she opts to share her prior experiences with the group is another story.
Nonetheless, even the faint odor is enough to be very... distracting for most of the group's members, though it's mercifully not intense enough to nauesate. Except for Corrin. Corrin has to step out momentarily to catch some fresh air that doesn't assault her stomach and sinuses. On top of which, the way it clings to and seeps through the wood of the dead foliage surrounding them makes the prospect of close exanimation unpleasant, if not somewhat daunting.
They're spared having to lean in close for a sniff from their teammate nearest to the ground. Cecil notes a quiet, acidic sizzle still seeping into the bark. Combined with the stench still somewhat fresh in the air, perhaps whatever created this odor had passed through here only recently.
Fortunately, a little bit of observation goes a long way, and the party is spared from having to follow their nose: Schala notices that the dead trees form a path through the woods, likely formed in the culprit's wake.
And, when the group follows that path, they see something in the distance: something difficult to actually scope out through the trees, but something that seems to be black in color and floating above the ground. And unlike Jeanne's last outing, there's still enough light to try and follow behind... or even attempt to confront it directly.
What's next?
no subject
If it escalates to a fight, Cecil's going to buff Jeanne with Tailwind. Since this will be his first action, it's enhanced by Grand Entrance. She's going in there head first, so she'll need the extra evasion.
no subject
She'll probably hang back towards the rear of the group, waiting to see if things escalate from there.
no subject
She'll hold off on any buffs or attacks for now so as not to waste her Grand Entrance, now that Jeanne's been buffed, though she'll be careful to ensure that she keeps herself between the target and Schala since their Knight isn't really big on the whole "tanking" thing.
no subject
Using the effect of the enhanced Tailwind, she imitates a lancer's leap as she jumps high into the air, bringing down the speartip of her flag on the rotten ghost in a display of Weapon Mastery. At least she has the good sense not to announce her presence with a bloodcurdling war cry before she lands the hit. After, though, is fair game.
no subject
Wait, never mind. There goes Jeanne, with Cecil's Tailwind providing a little more haste in his step. Oh, well. At least she finally gets an up-close look at the creature responsible. And from the way it silently jerks and lurches with the impact of her banner's speartip, one thing starts to become clear: This might not be a ghost.
But if that's the case, then... what is it, exactly...?
??????
It slow drift bcomes a darting bob backwards, an ichorous dark fog spilling out of a small puncture wound in its body. Its immediate response is to vent a dense, yellowish fog that brings the nauseating stench to an overpowering potency as expressionless, glowing eyes turn first to Jeanne, then to the rest of the group, seemingly more confused and indignant than panicked.
The trees nearby wilt just a little bit more. Being at point blank range, Jeanne is immediately poisoned. The others, further away, are a little better off; Corrin, Schala, and Cecil all feel a strong queasiness, but are otherwise fine. The question now is whether to continue attempting to press the attack, or to report the findings and prepare.
Either way, hopefully that smell washes off.

While covering her mouth and nose with an ineffective sleeve, Schala's going to turn to both Cecil and Corrin to see what they think the best course of action might be. The grip she keeps on her knife indicates she's willing to put up a fight, but you frontliners might have a better idea about what we're up against?? Could get ugly with all this poison and she'd prefer everyone stay alive!
no subject
"Can we draw it away from the trees, somewhere more open?" She suggests. "It's going to poison more of the woods at this rate." If there's a clearing nearby, she'll suggest trying to bait the monster out there.
no subject
He chooses to follow up on Corrin's suggestion. "I have an idea. Corrin and I will Impel the creature away from the forest while Jeanne's aggression pushes it into a clearing. Perhaps where trees are already corroded and dead to minimize the damage. Schala, you'll need to help Jeanne drive it back. I doubt poison will slow her down, but the creature will see an enemy weakened by its effects."

Despite their efforts not to, Cecil and Corrin breathe in the fumes and are poisoned, with Schala resisting it. From her point-blank position and already feeling sickened, Jeanne takes the hit especially poorly, but a little hope soon begins to present itself: Schala's Vis flares up brightly, seemingly burning a small portion of the poison out of the air.
Whether for this reason or simply responding to the stabbing and subsequent impulsion, the group's efforts to funnel the mysterious monster work almost a little too well; it quickly starts moving further into the woods, seeming- at a glance- to be retreating.
no subject
Wanting to pull her own weight, she'll draw attention to the dissipating poison and offer a proposal of her own: if you have another few heavy attacks in you, let her pre-requisite it with MORE FIRE to potentially make a clear path when it looks as though it's ready to produce another cloud to hinder your efforts.
no subject
Namely, a few throwing knives Cecil can fling towards the beast to damage it. Maybe if it learns there's nowhere to run, they can deal with it now.
no subject
She reaches for her belt and produces a small green vial, and tosses it to Cecil. "Here, drink this." She offers, Attending to the Kobold's need. "It should help with the nausea. Schala, keep it up, you're doing great clearing the miasma." She offers both of them a confident grin. The beast certainly looks strange, but they all know their roles. They've got this now.
no subject
Quite literally, in fact. Having been subject to several doses of the poison in rapid succession, Jeanne buckles and falls to the ground, dizzy and retching. Those not keeping in close proximity fare better, especially thanks to Schala's use of fire magic; it seems that her extrapolations were correct, and fire suffices to burn the poison out of the air. For that matter, by all appearance, it also suffices to intimidate the monster.
With Cecil and Schala's long range attacks quickly adding up, the monster wastes no further time in making its escape. With Jeanne brought low by the poison in her system and nobody at the front line to hinder its efforts, it succeeds in building enough distance to retreat from the party's onslaught and vanish into the thicker treeline to the Northeast, where the party- sadly- loses sight of it.
Nonetheless, from the information they'd gained about the monster's habits, hazards, and habitat, the party's investigation was a success and they report their findings back at the guild to earn their purse of 1000 Sol.
In light of your findings, it may actually be the creature's nest. We'll be arranging a follow-up assignment soon."
